AIR, Army and Sea Cadets from the regions recently met up at the Salutation Hotel, Perth, to compete in the National Standard Bearers Competition.

After an initial inspection Sea Cadets, Army Cadets and Air Force Cadets were put through their paces.

Each element of drill, movement and timing was assessed and marked.

In what proved to be a very close competition a highly commendable fourth place was awarded to Leading Cadet Charles Simpson of Methil & District Sea Cadets.

Our photograph shows him receving his award from Rear Admiral Hockley, Flag Officer Scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland.

Sea Cadets from across Fife and Tayside also recently came together for a weekend of boating at Dundee, TS Duncan.

The cadets spent their time learning pulling , sailing, kayaking and canoeing and, after a lot of hard work, were assessed on their ability.

Civilian instructor Allan Inness. said: “The cadets love getting on the water – their confidence grows and when they qualify for an award in recognition of their efforts they leave on a high.”

Ordinary Cadet Jack Percival (12), who has been a cadet since he was 10 years old, added: “The training is hard and great fun too.

“We were completing our assessments on pulling and it is great when we all pull together – the boat moves fast through the water... it’s a fantastic feeling.”
