Murray mania: LIKE so many others, I spent my Sunday afternoon watching Andy Murray in the Wimbledon final. It was great to see a Scot reach the last stages of the competition, and just by making it that far he’s gained a place in the history books. It’s a shame he didn’t lift the trophy, but losing to an awesome player like Federer is nothing for Murray to be ashamed of. He can hold his head up high, he’s done the country proud. As an aside, perhaps it was just me, but did anyone else find it awkward when the BBC had Tim Henman speaking about Murray’s performance and achievement, given that reaching the final was something he never managed to do? And now Murray’s doing so much better than Henman should that hill outside Centre Court not be permanently renamed ‘Murray Mound’?

Drink ban: WE’VE all been on the last train home at the weekend while completely sober and endured a journey listening to and watching those who have enjoyed a good drink. But not for much longer as ScotRail are introducing a ban on ‘drinking or visibly carrying’ alcohol on its services between 9.00 p.m and 10.00 a.m. Alright, that seems fair enough, but the rail company are going a step further and saying they will refuse travel to those ‘who are not considered fit to do so due to the effects of alcohol’. Who decides whether a passenger is ‘considered fit’ to travel? Where do you draw the line of who is or is not fit to travel? The reasons behind it are obvious in terms of an attempt to cut down on drink related anti-social behaviour, but depending on staff judgement it could just end up ruining many people’s nights out.

Olympic countdown: IN case you’ve been on a different planet and failed to notice, the London 2012 Olympics start in just a few weeks. But given the current state of the site at Stratford, which I saw for myself recently, I’ll be amazed if it’s finished on time. A recent trip to London for the fourth wedding of the year provided the perfect opportunity for a visit to Stratford including a spot of retail therapy at Europe’s largest shopping centre and a peek at the Olympic Park. From what it was possible to see of the site, it looked as if there was a lot of work still to be done. Let’s hope they get it finished.

This week ... Started reading ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ to see what all the fuss is about ...
