IN the first of a monthly column, the Scottish FA’s man responsible for developing the lifeblood of football in East Fife at grassroots level, Ian Lowe, offers his thoughts on how the game is developing in our region.
AT the turn of the year, huge changes were made at the Scottish FA as it formed its ‘Scotland United: a 2020 Vision’ strategy.
The ultimate aim is to have our national team regularly competing in tournaments.
To do this, the right environment must be created, and this is where my team comes in.
We want to see more people playing the game.
A separation at boardroom level of the professional and non-professional game has now allowed the Scottish FA to work much more closely with those who are involved at grassroots level.
My team in East Fife is here to support clubs, coaches, referees, volunteers, schools and local authorities get more people playing and involved in football.
The lifeblood of the grassroots game is the thousands of volunteers who devote time and effort to help others play the game.
It’s our job to champion and support the work of the volunteer so he/she continues to do so for as long as possible.
Over the next months, through this column in the East Fife Mail, I will give updates on each area, focusing on the challenges and outcomes of the Scottish FA’s work, while focusing on the issues affecting the game in East Fife.
