Having just seen their team win their way into the Scottish Cup final, Hearts fans James and Claire Lockhart have another reason to celebrate after scooping £10,000 with People’s Postcode Lottery.

Postcode KY14 7LB was selected as the winning Saturday Street Prize, leading People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt to surprise the lucky winners with their cheque.

With ticket holder James at work at local recycling firm Viridor, wife Claire was at home to collect the prize with their daughter, 19 month old Gabi.

She said “I just can’t believe it. Winning this amount of money just makes everything so much easier.”

Claire works part-time for Lloyds Banking Group, having returned to work in August 2011.

She said: “Trying to juggle childcare whilst working means James and I are like ‘passing ships’ sometimes.

“We were planning on a family holiday to the Isle of Skye in September, but with this win, we can now think about going abroad.”

The Lockharts are big Hearts fans and have just recently purchased hospitality tickets for the final against Hibs at Hampden on Saturday, May 19.

Claire said “We were trying to justify the cost of the tickets, but now we needn’t worry!”

In addition to the full winning postcode, a further 161 tickets in the postcode sector, KY14 7 won £20 per ticket.

As a charity lottery, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised more than £17.6 million for good causes across the country, and every penny raised by players in Scotland stays in Scotland, meaning players are supporting charities and good causes local to them.

BENEFITTED

Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, is just one of the charities which has benefitted from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The cancer support charity has received more than £2.1 million to date, which is enough to cover the operating costs of a centre such as the one located in Kirkcaldy, for four years.

Strathmiglo-based Busy Bees toddler group recently received £1900 in funding from People’s Postcode Trust, a grant giving body funded entirely by the players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The funding was used to upgrade the facilities and toys at the playgroup, giving the children and their parents a safe environment for the group to meet on a weekly basis.

Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: “Toddler groups such as Busy Bees create a vital source of support for parents who live in the local rural area. Our Street Prize winner is making a difference to charities right on her doorstep — or should I say, postcode!”
