Butcher ‘singing in the rain’ at Highland Show
Kinross butcher Ian Hunter wowed rain-soaked crowds with both his cutting prowess and his vocal talent at this year’s Royal Highland Show.
Visitors to the Quality Meat Scotland cookery theatre were treated to the unusual combination of talents when Ian, known locally as ‘the singing butcher’, took to the stage and couldn’t resist bursting into song.
His performance attracted a large crowd of people who lapped up his rendition of classic crooner favourites from legends such as Frank Sinatra and Ian was rewarded with a standing ovation at the end of his stint on stage.
During a 25 minute display of his talents, Ian also impressed the crowd with his butchery skills and he also took time to chat about his work with TV presenter Aggie MacKenzie, one of the celebrity chefs on the stand.
He said: “The butchery demonstrations are a very popular and interesting way to engage with consumers and let them see the traditional skills involved in producing an attractive display of top quality meat.”
Ian’s success in pleasing the public however doesn’t stop there as Hunters of Kinross has also been nominated in ‘Best Local Food retailer’ category in the prestigious BBC Food and Farming Awards 2012.
The nomination was made by ‘The Best of Perth and Kinross’, an online business directory which showcases the best businesses in the area.
The winners will be announced in November.
