Council goal to replace 42,000 street lights

THE mild winter has meant planned road improvements to Fife’s roads will go ahead over the next year.

£1.7 million is being invested in Kirkcaldy during 2012/13. This will include footpath, road maintence and drainage improvements.

Over the next year, over 7000 street lights will be replaced as part of a new Street Lighting Efficiency Project.

The scheme will involve replacing the old orange-coloured lights with new more energy efficent white ones.

This will cut energy use as well as decreasing ongoing maintenance costs. The aim is to replace 42,000 street lights in Fife over the next six years at a cost of £8.7m. This first year (2012/13) will see 7000 lights replaced at a cost of £1.4m.
