FIFERS flew Royal flags and decorated their homes, gardens and community centres with bunting to toast the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

In Kirkcaldy and surrounding areas, people of all ages all came together to celebrate Her Majesty’s 60-year reign.

Activities included street parties, street fairs, dance days, Jubilee planting and themed entertainment for children.

P6 pupils from Dysart Primary were invited by Dysart Community Regeneration Forum to help plant summer bedding in five empty containers in East Quality Street. They also took part in a quiz.

Meanwhile, other youngsters from Dysart enjoyed a day of dance. The special programme was organised by local dance teacher Cath Coutts.

Kirkcaldy dance teachers also led a varied range of dance from hip-hop, Scottish ceilidh, tap dance to musical theatre. The event was voted a great success and it is hoped to host similar events in future years.

Two street parties in Fordell Gardens and Bennochy Road, Kirkcaldy were also hailed a success.

In Fordell Gardens around 50 adults and 30 children enjoyed an barbecue, face painting, music, games and karaoke. The party was organised by Cathryn Archer, Melanie Adam and Lisa Curran.

Cathryn said: “Everyone had a great time and it was good to speak to neighbours we hadn’t met before. We are now thinking of making it an annual event.”

Between 80 and 100 people attended a street party in the grounds of the GP surgery in Bennochy Road. They enjoyed a barbecue, music, traditional games including the egg and spoon, sack and three-legged races. Everyone brought food and decorated the area with bunting, streamers and flags.

A Jubilee strawberry tea took place in Bennochy Parish Church.

Linton Lane Centre in Kirkcaldy hosted three events - children’s entertainment with Scotch Broth, a family street party and a senior citizens tea dance.

And in Burntisland a Jubilee street fair took place in the High Street. The event featured commemorative street planting and a variety of stalls on the pavements.
