Fife Herald launches ‘Child of Courage’ award

THE Fife Herald this week announces the launch of the first ever ‘Child of Courage’ award to be presented to a local youngster.
In conjunction with Cupar Children’s Gala, to show our support for our local community we are inviting people to nominate a school pupil (primary or secondary) whom they think deserves this special award.
Our ‘Child of Courage’ can include any child who has shown courage in the face of adversity, be it illness, family difficulties, educational issues, or just someone who has made an outstanding contribution within their family, school or the wider community.
The recipient of the award will be presented with a trophy at Cupar Children’s Gala in the town’s Duffus Park on Saturday, June 2.
Herald editor Graeme Scott said: “The Fife Herald is at the heart of the north east Fife community and we are delighted to be able to show our support to the community of Cupar and district by annnouncing this award.
“We have featured the stories of many local children who have shown tremendous courage in the face of adversity and because of this, thought it appropriate to launch the award at Cupar Children’s Gala.”
Welcoming the announcement, Cheryl King and Ali Rankin, joint-chairs of the gala committee, said the launch of the award was doubly special given that the gala takes place on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend.
“We hope people and businesses in the town will join with the gala in making this a real celebratory weekend.
“We are delighted the Fife Herald is showing its support for local children as this is what the gala is all about.”
Nominations should be made on the form which appears on page 12 and returned to the Fife Herald office, George Inn Pend, Cupar, by Monday, May 21,or by emailing details of the child being nominated to heraldnews@fifetoday.co.uk, or at facebook.com/thefifeherald.
The winner will be selected by an independent panel of judges and the recipient of the award will be notified in advance of the children’s gala.
This year’s gala looks set to be an exciting one with Cupar’s own ‘royal party’ leading the way in a procession from Fluthers car park to Duffus Park.
The new queen, king and attendants were announced at a special children’s gala live music concert in the Corn Exchange last Friday evening.
Castlehill pupil Katie Legge has the honour of being this year’s queen while the king is St Columba’s pupil Finlay Taylor.
Their attendants are Phoebe O’Toole, Abbie Sheldrick, Liam Finlay and Che Davidson, all Castlehill, with Alyth Kryzanowska and Ian Jordan, being given reserve places.
