Barefoot beach clean-up at Ruby Bay, Elie

OVER 30 local volunteers have lifted 197 kgs of litter from Elie’s Ruby Bay – making it a good deal safer and more pleasant to enjoy.

The coveted East Neuk beach was among over a dozen in Britain selected for the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, endorsed by popular TV presenter and adventurer, Ben Fogle.

The clean-up was intended to help the beach stay clean and safe, as well as raising awareness of the coast and how to protect it.

Taking part alongside the volunteers were Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue representatives and members of environmental charity SAS (Surfers Against Sewage).

Ben Fogle was unable to make the trip to Elie but, as project ambassador, said he loved the UK coastline and its beaches, and he cared very much about the environment.

Ruby Bay was one of Fife’s Seaside Award winners in 2010 and won a Blue Flag award in 2010 and 2011. 2512334, 2512335, 2512336
