THE Fife Free Press was among the winners of the 2012 Refugee Week Media Awards last week.
The Press was joint winner, with the Greenock Telegraph, of the Local Print award for our series of articles on Nepalese asylum seeker Kishor Dangol.
Reporter Debbie Clarke attended the award ceremony at Glasgow’s Tron Theatre on Friday night.
The awards were organised by the Scottish Refugee Council, British Red Cross and the National Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Debbie, who followed Kishor’s story for the Press, said: “I was delighted to accept this award on behalf of the Fife Free Press.
“We covered Kishor’s long campaign to stay in Kirkcaldy and the whole community got behind him.
“It was just a shame he ended up being deported after putting up such a strong fight.”
Gary Christie, head of policy and communications for the Scottish Refugee Council, added: “Our chosen winners are testament to the high calibre of fair and balanced reporting of our Scottish media.
