Last chance to claim a share of £50,000

Time is running out for community groups in the Kirkcaldy area to claim a share of £50,000.
The money has been set aside by the Kirkcaldy Area Committee for projects that will improve the communities in Kirkcaldy, Kinghorn, Burntisland, Auchtertool and Puddledub.
However, time is running out as an application form has to be submitted no later than 5.00 p.m. on Friday, January 18.
The Kirkcaldy Area Neighbourhood Engagement Scheme (KANES) is different to other grant schemes as it is local people, not Fife Council, who will decide which projects will get the funding
At a special event to be held at Adam Smith College on Saturday, February 23, all groups whose application meet the simple criteria, will be invited along to present their project idea and a decision on the successful projects will be made by members of the public that attend on the day.

Councillor Neil Crooks, chairman of Kirkcaldy Area Committee, said, “At the first ‘KANES’ event held last year 11 groups were successful in securing funding of between £500 and £5000 for a variety of projects.
“These included £2000 for Linton Lane Playgroup/The Grey Panthers for notice boards, £4844.23 to Kinghorn Community Council for its Cleaner Kinghorn Project which tackles dog fouling, and £550 to the Samaritans to help with taxi fares.
“If you, or your group, have a similar project I would encourage you to take advantage of this funding opportunity before it’s too late.”
Ken Halley, area locality support team leader said “This is a unique opportunity for community groups to apply for funding and also be part of the decision making process that determines which are successful. A number of applications have already been submitted but we hope to receive many more before next Friday.”
