SUMMER civic celebrations in the community get under way once again this weekend with Methilhill Children’s Gala.

However, the 2012 event, which takes place this Saturday, may be the last.

Long-serving committee members are set to step down and more help is needed if the occasion is to survive.

The procession leaves Ashgrove at noon and heads along to Herd Park, where there will be a customary selection of attractions including fun rides, cake and candy, stalls, tombolas, raffles and races.

This year, instead of the usual open-top bus, there will be an open limousine for the Methilhill Pruimary School pupils comprising the Gala Day entourage.

This year’s Prince is Ryan Barnett and the Princess is Kathleen Morris.

Meanwhile, the organisers are looking for anyone who is willing to take over the running of the Gala and provide the behind-the-scenes help to keep it going.

Janet Higgins, chair, and vice-chair Ann Hunter are standing down, along with remaining committee members Andrea Brady, Jane Graham, Christine Anderson, John Higgins and Beki Higgins.

They felt it was time to move aside, said Andrea, after running the event for around 15 years.

Anyone interested in taking on the arrangements can contact Janet Higgins or one of the ccommitte members.

Also, there will be further discussions at an annual general meeting to be held after the Gala.

Ryan’s attendants are Owen Auras, Kieran Lindsay, Kye McMillan, Kern Steele and reserve Aaron Draper.

Attendants for Kathleen are Aimee Faichney, Caley McLoud, Robyn McKay, Katie Young and reserve Charlie Watt.
