A UNIQUE venture which aims to promote quality art and craft across the Howe of Fife, is getting on track in Ladybank.
Several local artists have come together to turn the former station master’s house into the ‘Off The Rails Arthouse’ which will host workshops, exhibitions and arts and craft classes for the whole Howe of Fife community.
The non-profit making project, devised by local artist Claire Heminsley, aims to encourage and inspire creativity by offering opportunities for everyone from professional artists to people who are just interested in trying out something new.
A range of experienced craft and visual artists will lead classes, workshops and masterclasses from photography to life drawing to textiles.
Flexible space will also be available for occasional temporary exhibitions, pop-up shops and meetings.
Since coming up with the idea Claire has received the support of a small steering group and encouragement from Fife Contemporary Art & Craft and Craft Scotland.
The renovation of the building has been made possible through grants from the Railway Heritage Trust and Fife Council.
To help promote the venture and encourage local people to find out more, the Arthouse will be open during Open Studios weekend which runs from Saturday, May 5 - Monday, May 7.
Visitors will be able to look round the building, see an exhibition of work by some of the artists involved in the project, and find out more about what is planned.
The official launch of Off the Rails Arthouse will take place later this year.
Off the Rails Arthouse will also complement artist Kirsty Lorenz’s well established studio on Platform 1.
Further improvements to the area around the station have begun thanks to the work of the Ladybank Development Trust Gardening Sub-Group.
Together these initiatives will all promote Ladybank Sation as a very rewarding destination for both the local community and travellers from further afield.
