Lynne Ogilvie with her Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award

A KIRKCALDY businesswoman has been named as Fife Social Entrepreneur of the Year after scooping a special award recently.

Lynne Ogilvie was awarded the accolade at a Fife Social Enterprise trade fair organised by BRAG Enterprises Ltd, which was held at the Keavil House Hotel in Crossford last month.

Ms Ogilvie is service manager at Fife Shopping and Support Services Ltd, which is based in Mitchelston Industrial Estate. The town company has now been in business for 18 months following the withdrawal of a shopping delivery service.

She joined former colleagues from the Council-run scheme to launch the new business in September 2010 - one day after the local authority service stopped.

Ms Ogilvie and several colleagues put their own money into the new firm, which is a not-for-profit business.

She said: “BRAG Enterprises have supported me right from the start and I was really pleased to have been presented with this award.

“It has been a lot of hard work to get the business up and running so to get recognised for that is really nice.”

Ms Ogilvie said they have also been given a cash boost of £10,000 from the Coal Regeneration Trust which has been used to buy another two vehicles to add to the fleet. The business has also been given charity status which allows her to get access to more funding.

Fife Shopping and Support Services Ltd offers a shopping delivery and pension collection service. It has also expanded to help elderly clients with prescription collection, bill payments and housework. Charges are based on the cost of provision only and any profits are used to improve the service for customers. Ms Ogilvie said she is now looking to develop the business further by introducing a befriending service and is aiming to fundraise for a wheelchair adapted vehicle to allow staff to take clients out and about.

She is hoping to start raising money for this by taking part in a sponsored skydive in June! She said they are always looking for referrals and wants to hear from any businesses wanting to help sponsor the new befriending service.
