THE award-winning venison business Fletchers of Auchtermuchty has changed hands.
Vikki Banks, manager since 2009, has taken over the processing and retailing part of the operation, which is re-locating to an organic farm near Newburgh.
But she will still be supplied by the firm’s founders, John and Nichola Fletcher, who will continue to farm deer at Reediehill.
John explained: “After nearly 40 years of processing venison on our little farm, it has become increasingly obvious that this part of our business has become a victim of its own success and has now outgrown its current premises.”
Vikki will trade under the name Seriously Good Venison Ltd, though the well-known ‘Fletchers’ brand and logo will still be used. The farm shop at Auchtermuchty will also remain open and will be now be supplied by the business it once owned.
Founded in 1973, Reediehill Deer Farm was the first commercial deer farm in Europe and has won numerous awards, including the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement and the Good Housekeeping Award for Best Small Meat Producer.
Said Nichola: “We are really delighted that Vikki is going to continue to make the business grow and flourish – she has exactly the same values as we have always had; the main difference is that she has youth, more energy and a far better knowledge of technology than we do!”
