Clinton Cards shop saved from closure
STAFF at the Glenrothes branch of Clinton Cards have been spared their jobs as the company announce store closures.
The company which is the UK’s largest card retailer went into administration earlier this month amidst mounting debts, in March the company announced a £3.7 million six month loss for the period up to January 2012.
A total of 44 UK shops are to close, 14 of which are in Scotland with the loss of 100 Scottish jobs.
A decision about the future of the remaining outlets will be made in the next few weeks.
The affected Clinton Card stores in Scotland are in Airdrie, Coatbridge, Edinburgh- The Fort, Galashiels, Glasgow- Byres Road and Sauchiehall Street, Greenock, Hamilton, Paisley and Stirling.
Four Birthdays shops to close are Cumbernauld, Dalkieth, Falkirk and Fort William.
The administrators Zolfo Cooper said it expected further closures among the remaining outlets in the coming weeks.
Peter Saville, Joint Administrator and partner said: “It appears unlikely that we will be able to find a buyer for the majority of the Birthdays stores and our analysis highlights that we cannot justify continuing to trade certain Birthdays and Clinton Cards stores into June.”
