BUSINESSES from all over Fife learned more about the Government’s new Green Deal Initiative last week at a workshop in Fife Renewables Innovation Centre (FRIC) in Methil. The event, organised by Green Business Fife, aimed to tell businesses about
the scheme, as well as showcasing how other companies are taking advantage of Green Deal opportunities.
Green Deal, as featured in last week’s Mail, is an innovative Government initiative designed to help businesses and home owners to employ more green technologies in their properties, without having to pay all the costs up front.
It also aims to maximise the contribution of the energy efficiency sector in reducing UK carbon emissions.
Rob Davis, from the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) gave an overview of the scheme and highlighted how Fife companies can benefit from Green Deal.
Speakers included Gordon Santana, Project Manager at Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), who highlighted the opportunities and challenges faced by SSE as an energy company and Green Deal provider.
Nat Boyle, from manufacturers and installers of window and door systems, CMS Enviro Systems and renewable energy installer Gener8 Power’s Mike Smith, gave guests an insight
into their experiences of becoming a Green Deal installer and taking on an advisory role.
David Morrison, director of Green Deal Advice Centre and based within the FRIC, also outlined their experience with Green Deal in becoming an advice centre in Fife.
Matthew Rhodes, managing director of specialist engineering company Encraft, concluded by summarising the key findings of the likely take-up and impact of the Government’s new Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) policies will have in
the UK over the next decade.
Jim Keiller, from Alsherra in Levenmouth, said: “It was an interesting and informative event which highlighted the opportunities available to different types of businesses.
“There is a long way to go. However, events like this help businesses gain more of an understanding and raises awareness of the roles we, as businesses, can play.”
