FLOOD Inns, the Levenbased pub and entertainment chain headed by local business boss Lee Murray (left), picked up a leading accolade last week.

The group received the gold employer honour at the Scottish Business Diversity Awards ceremony in Edinburgh.

The awards were established to recognise those employers who do more to create job opportunities for people with disabilities, health issues or from diverse backgrounds.

Recent statistics have confirmed over half of all disabled people in Scotland are unemployed, with rates for people with mental health problems or sight loss being over 70 per cent.

Flood Inns was joined by a range of other Fife companies who won a mixture of gold, silver and bronze awards for provision, diversity, work initiative, and more.

All had successfully employed disabled people and made their workforce more diverse.

Kate Storrow, chair of the Scottish Union of Supported Employment, which organised the event, said: “The Scottish Business Diversity Awards 2012 celebrate the efforts of firms and supported employment providers who strive to open up their recruitment practices to people traditionally disadvantaged in the labour market.

“They highlight people and organisations who ensure that inclusive employment is a goal worth achieving for the person with a disability or health issue, for the organisation that offers them employment, and for the economic success of Scotland as a whole.”

The Scottish Business Diversity Awards 2012 were sponsored by Fife Council’s social work service, Shaw Trust, Momentum Skills, Capability Scotland, RNIB Scotland and Insight Radio.
