Lynn Reid in her new flower shop - Wild Orchid

A NEW florists has been opened by a Kirkcaldy woman keen to turn her passion into a successful business.

Wild Orchid opened its doors on Monday and now this new family-run business is keen to do well after putting the hard graft in to renovate the former dance shop into a bright, welcoming florists.

Lynn Reid owns Wild Orchid and is looking forward to running her own flower shop after working for a florists for a number of years.

She said: “I’m really glad to be open now. This is my first business. I’m very passionate about it, it’s very exciting.

“I worked for Victoria Florists for eight years. And I trained in London for a while.

“I thought it was about time I did it for myself.

“I was helping my old work’s business build-up for years, so I thought it would be good to do it for me and my family.”

Lynn, who named the business after her favourite flower, told the Press what people can expect at the Hunter Street shop.

“Weddings - that’s our speciality, but we cater for everything else as well,” she said.

“Funerals, birthdays - everything really. Even if you’re just after a few stems, we can help.

“We only sell high quality flowers, no rubbish.

“It’s only fresh flowers here, straight from Holland. We have three different suppliers, all of whom are Dutch and can have flowers here the next day.”

Lynn revealed how hard it was to start up her own business, but after taking the plunge she is now looking to bring her family into the business in the future.

She said: “It was tough, very scary and it made me quite nervous.

“I just hope we can be really successful.

“My daughter Maia is going to be helping out at weekends. It will be nice to train her up.

“It would be great, years down the line, to pass it down to her.”

Lynn explained how she was able to open the shop only a fortnight after she got the keys, adding how welcome she feels

She said: “It was a dance shop before we took over. It was really old.

“But with help from friends and family we renovated the place in two weeks.

“I’m very proud that we have done it in such a short space of time.

“Everybody in the street has been so nice. They have all been round to say hi and make me feel welcome.”
