Cochrane's Kitchen homemade jam. The business was started by Kirkcaldy woman Jacqueline Cochrane.

A KIRKCALDY jam, marmalade and chutney producer couldn’t find a local craft fayre to sell and promote her products ... so she’s set up one herself.

Jacqueline Cochrane launched her new business Cochrane’s Kitchen a couple of months ago, and has already had a great response to her range of homemade products.

And she hopes to promote her products to a wider audience at the first Kirkcaldy Makers Market on Saturday, September 29, when a range of small businesses will get the chance to sell their handmade goods.

Jacqueline said: “We were looking for an opportunity to sell our own products but nothing specifically for local produce seemed available, so we decided to try to set up our own.

“We promoted it on Facebook and the response was amazing. All 21 tables have been taken and we have people on a waiting list. Most are new businesses which work from home and would like to share their products with the public.

“Given the current economic climate, we feel promotion of local goods and enterprise is very important and we are looking forward to being able to show people some of the huge variety of products and talents we have in Kirkcaldy and the surrounding area.”

Stallholders will be selling occasion cakes, photography, upcycled gifts, jewellery, artwork, cards, candles, baby gifts, knitwear, soft toys, woodwork, hair accessories, designer stationary and handmade gifts.

“There’s an incredible number of people in the Kirkcaldy area producing their own unique products,” said Jacqueline, who has been supported in setting up Cochrane’s Kitchen by daughter Erin, partner Ray and nine-year-old son Jacob, who came up with the name and drew a logo to be used on jam jar lids.

“I started my business as I needed a job to fit round Jacob. I enjoyed cooking, so I started making my own jams, marmalades and chutneys and found I was good at it. I’ve created a range of different flavours and I’m trying out new ones all the time.

“One of the latest is rum ’n’ raisin and apple pie jam.”

The Kirkcaldy Makers Market is on Saturday, September 29, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Abbey Hotel, Kirkcaldy.
