TWO unemployed youths have been helped into full time employment through the support of a Fife Council scheme.

Bryan Mitchell, from Cowdenbeath, and Michael Hutchison, from Cardenden, joined the Council’s ‘Get Ready for Work’ programme after finishing school and it allowed them to get real work experience with local employers.

Development staff worked with Kirkcaldy recycle specialist, Envirokleen, to set up a supporting package with the pair, so they could gain the skills and qualifications required for the jobs. This included them gaining certification to operate a forklift.

Andy Higgins, owner of EnviroKleen, said: “The employer programme is an excellent scheme. It’s given the boys the chance to learn while in work for 13 weeks and to demonstrate they could fit into my company. They were supported during that time and the development worker was there to help if any issues arose.”

He added: “After completing the training, we were happy to offer both Michael and Bryan full time employment as recycle operatives.

“In fact we have two more posts and will use the employer programme to fill them.”
