Tesco supermarket could be a step closer to Leven
THE arrival of Tesco into Leven will take another step forward tomorrow (Thursday) when councillors are expected to give the development the green light.
A report will be presented to Fife Council’s planning committee regarding the development on land near to Pfaudler Balfour.
Around 160 jobs will be created at the supermarket, with Tesco believed to be happy to sign a local labour agreement to ensure to area’s unemployed are targeted.
Sustainable forms of transport would include footpath links, provision for cyclists and the placing of bus stops within 400 metres of the site.
The report says: “As the applicant in this case is Tesco, a retailer not represented in the town, there is a clear benefit in terms of customer choice.
“The quality of the retailing is a subjective matter and individual retailers will always stress the distinctiveness of their own branding, but a Tesco store is similar in character to Sainsbury’s
As there will be some impact on the town centre Tesco has offered £100,000 towards linkages and improvements.
Leven town centre concept design study is in preparation with regard to this and it is expected that this would provide a list of potential projects.
The results of this study are expected in March.
