Missing St Andrews woman’s body is washed ashore
Missing St Andrews woman Audrey Evans
THE body of missing St Andrews woman Audrey Evans has been recovered from the sea in Northumbria.
Mrs Evans (57), a mother of four from Lindsay Gardens, hadn’t been seen since April 4.
She had been struggling with mental health issues.
Husband Dafydd Evans paid tribute to his wife.
He said: “The family would not like Audrey to be remembered as the woman who went missing and was washed up on a beach.
“The family would like her to be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother to four children, who had a joyful life until the terrible disease of mental illness began to take her away from us about two years ago.
“She is much missed.
“The family would like to thank Fife Police and the press for all their assistance in finding Audrey, but would now like to ask for some privacy so that they can come to terms with their loss.”
Chief Inspector Jill Harper of Fife Constabulary said: “I am sorry that this is not the result everyone was hoping for and our sympathies go to the family and friends of Audrey Evans.
“I would like to thank the efforts of everyone who assisted us over the last two weeks for their hard work and dedication.”
Fife Police had been carrying out extensive enquiries and searches with the help of partner agencies, the local community and the local press.
