SCOTTISH Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie was among a bunch of Fife MSPs who took to the shop floor for a day to encourage more people to volunteer for Barnardo’s Scotland.

Mr Rennie was in Leven to volunteer at Barnardo’s Shorehead branch, as part of national Make a Difference Day.

It was the UK’s biggest day of volunteering and this year’s theme was: “Everyone has a skill they can use to help others. What can you do?”

MSPs Tricia Marwick, Claire Baker, Roderick Campbell, Annabelle Ewing, John Park and Mr Rennie joined Labour MP Gordon Brown for the annual event, in whcih they were asked what variety of skills they had and what they wanted to learn, during their stint at Barnardo’s.

Barnardo’s has more than 9000 volunteers who work in the charity’s retail department ensuring vital funds are raised to support vulnerable children, young people and families.

Over 1500 of those volunteers dedicate their time to Barnardo’s Scotland, which encourages retail volunteers from all walks of life. For many, volunteering can also be the ideal route back into work after a career break.
