THERE was a break with tradition at Waid Academy's end of term ceremony.
Last week's event involved the whole school, abandoning the format of restricting it to just the senior pupils.
Rector Iain Hughes believed that meant many pupils weren't aware until fourth or fifth year of what to aim for.
"I want to change that," he said. "I want to celebrate the achievements of our learners on a much wider scale. I want pupils to know that it is not only 'cool' to achieve but that it is expected and celebrated."
Over a three-day period well over 300 pupils received awards and, for the first time, parents of all year groups were able to share in these acheivements.
It was Mr Hughes' first awards ceremony as the new rector and he said: "Taking on the chance to lead any secondary school in the 21st century is a challenge, especially at a time when the whole curriculum is changing and developing across Fife and across Scotland as a whole.
