THEY say "Where there's a will, there's a way..." and in the case of 14-year-old Ricky Williamson from Leven it's a fitting description!
He's broken the record books by becoming the youngest trip planner ever to arrange for a busload of Fife holidaymakers to visit Alton Towers theme park.

What's more he had the whole trip arranged within a few days.

He said: "I was inspired by
people saying they were not going anywhere on holidays, but would like to.

"I then thought, well why don't I organise a trip for everyone and anyone to go on, where families can spend some time together and have fun?"

The Buckhaven High School pupil set to work researching local bus companies through the Yellow Pages and found one Grangemouth firm which was so taken by his gumption it offered him a cheap price.

A 49-seater coach is now scheduled to make the 400 mile-plus trip to the funfair resort on Tuesday, August 11.

Ricky's dad, David, who works as a gardener, said: "It's not the first time he's done something like this - he's quite enterprising and when he gets an idea into his head, he just gets on with it.

"For a 14-year-old his achievements are outstanding. I'm very proud of him."

Last year, Ricky organised a Christmas raffle for the charity Homestart and promoted the event on Leven High Street.

Incredibly, his efforts paid for the family support group's Christmas party and presents for the children.

Rachael Lockitt, PR Manager at the Alton Towers Resort said: "To our knowledge, this is the youngest trip planner that we have ever been aware of, so he really should be congratulated for his efforts, especially given the distance involved!"

She added: "We're confident they'll all have an amazing time with us – thanks to all Ricky's hard work in organising the adventure!'

Places are still available on the coach – prices are £50 per adult and £45 per child, including admission to Alton Towers.

The coach will pick up interested parties from Leven, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline, and travel through the night arriving at Alton Towers one hour before opening.

It will then return later that day and arrive back in Fife in the early hours of the following morning.
