NOW is the time to make sure Leven's rail link hopes are put firmly back on track.
That's the call coming from local politicians who reckon that, following the commitment to create a massive offshore wind farm in the Firth of Forth, Methil's Energy Park is perfectly placed to support the development.

MSPs Tricia Marwick and Ted
Brocklebank have asked for a renewed commitment to be made to the link which could be a vital facility for incoming manufacturing businesses to the park.

Speaking at Holyrood, Mr Brocklebank criticised government enterprise minister Jim Mather for failing to bring forward plans to have the link re-instated.

Following the debate, Mr Brocklebank said: "The Minister tried to pass the buck to the SNP transport minister and I shall be writing to Stewart Stevenson to ask about progress on the line.

"But surely what is needed for the new Energy Park is joined-up thinking on the government's part.

"It's up to the Enterprise Minister to ensure that his colleagues are up to speed so that Fife does not miss out on any of the business opportunities arising from the renewables revolution, in which the Energy Park will hopefully play a major part.

"Reinstating the Levenmouth to Thornton link is a vital part of this"
In defence of her party colleague, Mrs Marwick told the Mail that Mr Mather was the wrong minister to be quizzed on the issue by Ted Brocklebank, however, added that she did support his call to bring the development forward.

Mrs Marwick said the project was now awaiting funding support to give it the final green light, but conceded that in the current financial climate, this may prove difficult.

"We've seen the Glasgow rail link fall down because of necessary cuts to the budget so it's difficult to see where the money will come from at the moment," said the SNP MSP.

"Ted Brocklebank is making a good point about the Leven to Thornton rail link, however, if he'd asked the right minister he'd have been told that SEStran has aleady said that it's viable.

"The challenge for us now is to find out where the money will come from."
