VISITORS to a new 'clockface' attraction in Leven are set to have the best of times.
It's no wind-up – new play facilities for younger children, and 'green gym' fitness equipment for adults, will be coming to Letham Glen.

A section beyond the sunken garden at the cherished visitor spot is being transformed in time for summer, in
a £75,000 project involving Fife Council, Silverburn and Letham Glen Development Group, and others.

The circular 'clockface' arrangement of the equipment includes a play area for toddlers, with a slide, climbing frame, soft floor, cradle swings and toadstool seats.

The fitness and training apparatus will be similar to that at Leven's Promenade, with a body twister, leg press, chest press, and pull-down exerciser for the back.

Seating and signing, stating clearly the fitness area is for use by children over 12 and adults, will also be provided.

The Esplanade equipment has proved very popular with local people and visitors – a group of gym enthusiasts from Cupar even travelled to use it when their regular premises were shut for refurbishments.

Iain Wilson, Fife Council's parks development officer for Levenmouth, hoped the attraction of new facilities for a wide age group would make the venture a success and raise Letham Glen's value as a local asset.

"We had been looking for some time to make improvements at Letham Glen and wanted to put something in for younger children, but never had the money for it," he explained.

"The fitness equipment on Leven Promenade has been very successul and we're hoping Letham Glen will encourage more people to come along as well.

"It will be quite exciting for the summer – there will be something there for the younger children too."

Mr Wilson added the tendering process was under way and work should hopefully begin around the end of the financial year, in late March or early April.
