'St Monans: Cherished Memories of a Boatbuilding and Fishing Village in the East Neuk of Fife' by Jenny Miller MacDonald was given its first public airing by the Rev. Dr Donald MacEwan at St Monans Heritage Centre on Tuesday night.
Vicki Salvage,
who helped New Zealand-based Ms Miller MacDonald (84) get the book ready for printing, explained that the background to this book was unusual.
Jenny Miller MacDonald was born and raised in St Monans – a daughter of the boatbuilding 'Miller' family.
She emigrated to New Zealand as a young woman – when she married a New Zealander not long after World War Two.
Before leaving for her new life she had been very involved in village life and especially loved the beautiful auld kirk of St Monans.
After a very full and busy life - which also involved boatbuilding on the other side of the globe – Jenny decided to record her memories of growing up in the St Monans of the 1920s, 30s and 40s.
"The book she has written is a journey to a St Monans which is very different from the village of today and is illustrated with many old photographs from Jenny's youth."
All profits from the sale of the book are being donated towards the upkeep of the St Monans auld kirk building.
