A WAID teacher has made a successful start to his career as an up-and-coming music mogul.

Laurent Gauffre's new record label recently released its first recording, by Scottish folk-rock band Aberfeldy, which has proved a popular download and will shortly be released as a limited edition seven-inch vinyl single.

Mr Gauffre, a French teacher at the Anstruther school, set up 17 Seconds with Ed Jupp, brother of the comedian Miles Jupp.

The two found they shared a passion for music when they met while working at Inverkeithing High School and decided to take the plunge after discovering that Edinburgh-based Aberfeldy had recently been dropped by their record label.

Mr Gauffre said they hoped to build a roster of artists which could see the label, eventually, become a major player.

"That's the long term aim anyway," he added, "it's a bit of a hobby just now, but, hopefully, we can go on from here.

"A few of the kids at the school heard about the single and downloaded it and I've seen a few of them at gigs, so they've been quite supportive."

Further details about the label can be found at the website: www.myspace.17seconds
