The Mail revealed in November that West Wemyss was celebrating after making it on to the shortlist of 28 finalists in the BBC and Big Lottery Fund's Village SOS competition and the excitement returned when the camera crew visited to make a short sho
wcase documentary.
The West Wemyss Development Trust showed the crew around and unveiled its ambitious plans to revitalise the village in the hope of being awarded one of six £400,000 prizes and a place on a BBC television series.
Liz Dair, trust member and volunteer, explained the group proposes buying the closed down Wemyss Arms pub and re-opening it as a not-for-profit community hub offering a cafe/bar as well as creating allotments and an eco-friendly burial site as part of a larger plan to kick start the village's spirit and place on the tourist trail.
Mrs Dair said: "It is very exciting.
"The film is a vital part of the competition.
"We have to try to sell our project to the judging committee so, along with the paperwork, it is a big part of the application."
If successful, as well as being awarded the cash, the cameras will come back for a year to film the work being carried out and show it on the BBC in 2011.
To help them along with all the logistics West Wemyss has been paired with a Village Champion by the competition organisers in the shape of Australian former social enterprise chief executive Alli Hammett.
If West Wemyss is successful when the winners are announced in March Mrs Hammett, who moved to Wales with her husband two years ago, will move up to the village for a year to take a hands- on approach.
She said: "We just hit it off straight away.
"We have been working on the project via e-mail up till now but I came up to the village on Sunday to stay for a week and I have fallen in love with it.
"I want to live here now, everyone has been so welcoming.
"I really think we have a fabulous chance of winning.
"We have all the skills and passions to make it happen and even if we don't secure this funding everything will be in place to look at other avenues."
Blair Denwette, trust committee member, thanked the West Wemyss community for getting involved with the project so far and invited anyone else wishing to take part or wanting to find out more details of the plans to visit the trust's website at www.westwemysscommunity.co.uk.
