  • Fife Free Press launches campaign to improve sports facilities
PLEDGE your support to the campaign for increased sports facilities in Kirkcaldy.
LISTEN to what the public is asking for and take calls for increased sports facilities in Kirkcaldy seriously.

That is the message to Fife Council as The Fife Free Press launches a campaign calling for a multi-purpose sports centre in the town.

The Press is responding to readers' cries for increased investment in Kirkcaldy as growing numbers of sports clubs and users struggle with a desperate shortage of facilities.

For decades, residents have watched with frustration as money is pumped into leisure provisions across Fife while Kirkcaldy - the Kingdom's principal town - is only able to offer sports fans a rapidly aging 1960s swimming pool and out-of-hours access to school gyms.

'Give Us a Sporting Chance' calls on the Council to reverse this situation by finding - and committing - the money that is needed to bring Kirkcaldy's sports facilities up to a 21st century standard.

We are already assured of a like-for-like replacement pool which is welcomed.

But we believe the town needs further investment in its sporting facilities to bring them up to scratch.

The Council will publish its 10-year Sports Facility Strategy in June.
It has pledged to deliver one of the biggest investments to sport in Scotland and insists Kirkcaldy will not be ignored.

By speaking up now we will ensure our views will be heard as officials and councillors draw up this blueprint for the future.

We cannot sit back and simply see what we get. We must speak up now.
The Press is carrying a campaign coupon asking the public to give their support.

And you can also add your name and address to the list via this website by clicking here and e-mailing us your support.

We want as many people as possible to pledge their backing – and we will deliver YOUR pledges to the Council to highlight the sheer volume of demand there is for a multi-purpose sports centre in the town.

Spearheading the campaign is Kirkcaldy Area Sports Council, the body which represents clubs across the town, with chairman Mark Bramwell being the first to pledge his support.
