KIRKCALDY'S first classic vehicle show is coming to the town centre on Saturday - and it has a distinctly royal feel.
The show will feature at least 20 different classic vehicles, including two cars previously owned by the Queen and the late Queen Mother, which also appeared in Hollywood film 'Stone of Destiny'.

The royal cars include a 1954, 346 Sapphire saloon which was owned by the Queen for three years.

Her Majesty handed it down the family and after its last owner died, the car sat forgotten in a storage container for 27 years.

It was bought and restored in 2004 by Keith Ward, who runs the Armstrong Siddeley Owners' Club in Scotland.

The other, a 1958, 346 Limousine, was purchased in South Queensferry by the Royal Purser on behalf of the Queen Mother who used it as her own personal car for about 30 years.

It too fell into disrepair but was faithfully restored by Mr Ward.

Other cars expected on Saturday include Austin Morris Minis, Wolseleys, Morris Minors, Rovers, Armstrong Siddeleys and Land Rovers.

A procession of the classic vehicles will leave the lorry park on the Esplanade at 10.30 a.m. before it makes its way along the Esplanade, up Dunnikier Road, along Victoria and Bennochy Road, down St Brycedale Avenue, then Kirk Wynd, before coming to their resting place at the east end of the High Street.

The cars will be met by Methilhill Community Pipe Band, who, along with drummers Resonate, will be providing music at the event.

Town centre manager Sunil Varu said: "We have 20 cars confirmed for Saturday but we might end up with more.

"Everyone involved is really looking forward to the event and it should be a great day out.

"I would urge the public to get into the town centre early for this special classic vehicle show which will last until 3 p.m.

"The event is designed to get people into the town centre and more specifically the east end of the High Street."

On Saturday, the road will be closed in the east end from Kirk Wynd between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and there will be free face painting for children.

This event is the finale in a month-long series of free events in the Kirkcaldy town centre festival.

The festival has been organised by the new Kirkcaldy Business Improvement District (BID), the group which allows businesses to collectively invest in improvements in the area.
