PEOPLE from across Fife provided a welcome financial boost for our Maggie's Centre last week, with a flurry of fundraising activities.
Maggie's Friday, the annual event supported by schools, the Fife Free Press, Fife Council, Adam Smith College, Fife Fire and Rescue Service, and Fife Police, brought in thousands of pounds for the charity, just weeks before Christmas.

Kingdom FM devoted the airwaves to the event, encouraging people to pledge money, and bring a £1 to work. Breakfast show hosts Ian Gilmour and Diane Lester also launched an on-air auction offering exclusive items such as first-class rail tickets, a £5 note signed by golfer Jack Nicklaus which sold for £1600, and a Jack Vettriano signed print which went for £1200.

The station has already reported more than £10,000, with fundraising being added to the tally every day.

Ian said: "We're delighted to have been involved in supporting Maggie's Friday. People in Fife are always so generous and the money makes a huge difference in helping to keep the centre running."

Elsewhere, Fife Council staff gave their support with a huge range of fundraisers across many different departments, most notably offering employees the chance to throw sponges at their bosses. The IT service netted over £1600 from their activities, while building services raised over £1000.

Pupils from Kirkcaldy High School currently studying for retail qualifications at Adam Smith College put their skills into great use by raising almost £430.

The S5/S6 pupils organised a fundraising extravaganza with a raffle, tombola and other competitions offering prizes donated by local businesses.

Tutor Maureen Wright said: "The pupils were really enthusiastic from the start and set out to raise as much money as possible for this very worthwhile charity by contacting local businesses, pupils, teachers and support staff at the school for donations."

Fife Police have also thrown their full support behind the Maggie's Friday initiative with two events.

A 'dress down' day for the entire Force is planned tomorrow (Friday) with staff invited to wear casual clothing, where appropriate, in return for making a donation.

On January 13 the force will be holding an 'Office Golf' tournament within the Headquarters building at Detroit Road, Glenrothes.

Fife Fire Service, Synergy Yoga and Fair Isle Primary School are also among the many other organisations who raised vital cash on the day.

Mhairi MacCallum, Community Fundraising Manager for Maggie's in Scotland, thanked everyone who donated or helped out.
