  • Speak up in the fight for better sports facilities
A PUBLIC meeting will be held next week to discuss the future of sports provision in Kirkcaldy.
Following a well publicised campaign for increased facilities - led by The Fife Free Press - every resident is invited to hear the views of sporting enthusiasts and have their say on what is being planned for Kirkcaldy.

Organised by Kirkcaldy Area
Sports Council (KASC), Tuesday night's event will give people a chance to ensure Fife Council hears what they want for their town and to call on officers to deliver what is needed for the 21st century.

Chairman Mark Bramwell said: "This meeting is for everybody in the town, not just sporting clubs. I urge anyone who cares about Kirkcaldy's future to come."

KASC offered a damning response to the Council's 'Sports Facilities Strategy For Fife' last month, arguing the document - which maps out a vision for the region over the next decade - does not go far enough to address Kirkcaldy's needs.

The group argued against the proposed like-for-like replacement of the town's swimming pool, calling instead for a multi-purpose sports centre, backed by The Press.

Mr Bramwell said: "This meeting will give officers a chance to respond to questions and get a clear idea of what the public is looking for. I do not think they have had that yet."

The meeting will be chaired by Mr Bramwell and residents will be given time to voice their views. Councillors, council officers, sporting clubs, community groups and the town's MSP and MP have all been invited to the event.

The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. at Adam Smith College, St Brycedale Avenue, Kirkcaldy. KASC's response to the Council's 10-year strategy can be downloaded from its website www.kirkcaldyasc.co.uk.
