THE Chinese Consul General in Edinburgh has visited the Griselda Hill Pottery in Ceres.
China is famous for its beautiful pottery, and the Consulate staff have been searching for some time for a traditional Scottish pottery with an emphasis on heritage.
The visit by Consul General, Mme Tan Xiutan, and members of her staff coincided with the start of the Olympics in Beijing.
Pottery owner, Griselda Hill, has two adopted Chinese daughters and is very keen to cultivate links with China.
In 2006, the pottery organised an exhibition of Wemyss Ware with a Chinese theme, 'When East Meets Wemyss', and in 2007 it held a 'Festival of Pigs' to celebrate the Year of the Pig.
Quite apart from these new ventures, traditional 'Wemyss' styles often borrow from Chinese design.
Griselda said: "Mme Tan was a very charming visitor.
"She showed great interest in all aspects of the working pottery."
The pottery hopes that firm links can be established with the Consulate which may lead to delegations of Chinese business people visiting the home of Wemyss Ware.
