MOTORISTS caught drink driving in north east Fife this festive season face having their cars seized.
In one of their biggest ever crackdowns, Fife Police have pledged to stop anyone suspected of driving with excess alcohol.
And, in addition to fines and driving bans, police will also be working with courts to seize vehicles from repeat drink drive offenders.
Fife's head of road policing, Chief Inspector David McCulloch, said: "The festive period always increases the potential for motorists to drink and drive, and it is our intention to reduce the risk to road users.
"It is our intention to test more drivers than ever before to make it clear that you are highly likely to be caught if you drink and drive."
As in previous years, policing objectives will see officers seeking to minimise the number of collisions caused by drink drivers by deterring and detecting those who persist in taking such risk into our community.
Chief Inspector McCulloch went on: "We will therefore seek to provide a reassuring and visible presence to the majority of law abiding motorists.
"Resources will be used effectively both day and night and provide a high visibility presence in predetermined areas supplemented by random stop points.
"Drivers should be aware that alcohol can stay in their system for hours and that they could be over the limit the following morning as they travel to work etc."
The campaign, which is part of a national initiavtive, also sees the introduction of a drink drive vehicle forfeiture scheme.
