THE 'four pillars of policing' providing the framework for how Fife Constabulary will reinforce the quality of life in the Kingdom in the coming year have been unveiled.
The annual Policing Plan sets out the strategic priorities for the force in 2006-07.
They were identified following extensive consultation with the force, partners and communities in line with available resources and national priorities.
This year, the plan focuses on four key areas. These are:
Tackling crime — Key themes are reducing housebreaking, tackling the drug dealers and reducing violent crime.
This will be driven through force-wide operations under the Time2Act banner, working with partners to reduce the availability of drugs in communities and greater use of analysis to target crime.
Being there for the community — Key themes are providing a reassuring presence, understanding communities and making the police more available.
Ways of achieving this include working with partners to find the right response for the community, fully exploiting CCTV and other technology and enhancing community policing.
Safer neighbourhoods — Key themes are tackling anti-social behaviour, road safety and robust management of sex offenders.
This will be achieved by working with partners for existing diversion projects for young people, rigorously investigating racist incidents and innovative force-wide operations targeting sex offenders.
Building on success — Key themes are responding effectively to service demands, increasing customer satisfaction and reviewing working practices.
This will be achieved by re-examining the local policing structure in the light of future local authority restructuring, actively engaging with partners, communities and staff to improve the quality and responsiveness of service and assisting in the preservation and sustainability of the environment.
Launching the plan, Fife Chief Constable Peter Wilson said: "Fife Constabulary's annual Policing Plan provides the cornerstone for how we do business in the coming year.
"While the main focus will continue to be on tackling crime, it also recognises our wider role of working with partners to reassure the communities of Fife."
Councillor Andrew Keddie, chairman of Fife Council's community saferty committee: said: "I believe the new Policing Plan will help Fife Constabulary to continue delivering a high standard of policing for the Kingdom's communities."
Fife Constabulary is also preparing a three year strategic plan for 2006-09, which will focus on the same four priorities as this year's Policing Plan.
This will allow better forward planning along with other partnership agencies and in line with national priorities.
