AN AMBITIOUS project to capture memories of Falkland in an extremely novel way has taken a major leap forward.
'The Big Book', which invited contributions by people from a cross-section of village life, has finally had its cover and some pages completed.
Project co-ordinators Jan Hendry and Alan Ford said they are now ready for local people to come forward and help them fill some more of the pages.
Jan explained: "The pages have been hand-crafted from native Scottish hardwoods by local craftsman Dave McKeen and he has created a beautiful piece of work for the burgh.
"The covers have been made to house the growing collection of pages hand-made during the project, all inspired by Falkland, its people and landscape."
She added: "The book will be exhibited around the town in years to come and we hope it will generate interest and enthusiasm — as well as being a source of pleasure and pride.
"Some beautiful pages have already been completed and more are in production."
So far, contributors include Falkland Nursery, the playgroup, the art class, the SWRI, the Falkland Society, the Wednesday night folk session at the Stag Inn, Dunshelt Primary School and Lynburn Primary School (on their experiences at Big Tent 2007), the Sustainable Falkland project; as well as a good number of enthusiastic residents and others who care about the burgh.
Jan added: "If you have a story connected with Falkland which you'd like to see in the book, there's still time to contribute.
"Don't miss this chance for you or your group to be included!
"We'll provide you with the materials and help you get your ideas on to paper, or recorded — the book will have an accompanying CD-rom."
