A FREUCHIE couple marked half a century of give and take last Saturday when they celebrated their golden wedding with family and friends.
John and Agnes (Nan) Matthew (nee Fairfield) married on March 22, 1958, and have lived in the same house in Muir Road ever since.

The couple met as teenagers through their involvement in church choirs, but two years of national service in the 1950s for Mr Matthew delayed their wedding.

Singing has remained an strong interest for Mrs Matthew (72) while Mr Matthew (74) is a keen gardener and photographer.

He was a mechanic for much of his career before becoming a driving instructor in the last decade.

Mrs Matthew has worked for Freuchie businesses since she was 15 and still works full-time in the local shop and post office, a job she has held for about 40 years.

She said she was quite happy in the position and had no thoughts of retirement at this stage.

The couple have two sons, Steve, now in Newport, and Kevin, who lives in Freuchie, and also have two grandchildren.

Mr Matthew said he and his wife had enjoyed travelling together, both abroad and throughout Scotland and England.

He felt listening to each other and sorting out problems together were two important elements of a successful marriage.
