A RETIRED minister from Freuchie is set to put his best foot forward this weekend to raise money for Alzheimer Scotland.
Cameron Mackenzie has pledged to do a 10k walk once a month for the next 10 months.

The 80-year-old is due to start on Sunday when he takes part in the Nairn 10k.

Mr Mackenzie was encouraged to help fund-raise for the charity by his son Roddy, who came up with the idea of running ten 10km races for Alzheimer Scotland in 2010.

He wants to raise at least £100 and hopes that if 100 other people join him, that would bring in £10,000.

The retired minister said his family are all supporting Roddy's venture, in memory of Mr Mackenzie's late wife, Joyce.

"My wife died just over a year ago and she had dementia," he explained.
"It was my middle son's idea to do this and my three sons will be taking part. My grandchildren are also supporting it.

"We sought help from Alzheimer Scotland for my wife, but there was a long waiting list.

"I believe it's one of the organisations which is least supported, in terms of funding, yet it's one of the most needed.

"That is why, as a family, we wanted to take part in this and not only raise money for Alzheimer Scotland, but also raise awareness of what it does."

Mr Mackenzie said he isn't looking for sponsorship from people, but is more than happy to just accept donations.
