IF you want a long and happy marriage, don't live in each other's pockets.
That's the advice from Ladybank couple Frank and Betty Ironside, who are celebrating 50 years together!

Frank and Betty marked their golden wedding anniversary with a party for family and friends in the Masonic Hall in Ladybank.

The couple tied the knot in Betty's home village of Rathillet after being introduced by a friend from Frank's home town of Ellon, Aberdeenshire, whom Betty met while training as a nurse in Dundee.

After their marriage they lived in Dundee for a while, where Betty continued nursing and Frank worked as a driver, before moving to Ladybank.

They had two sons and two daughters, but sadly one son, Craig, died 18 years ago at the age of just 25 after being involved in an accident while on an army exercise in Plymouth.

Daughters Sandra and Jackie live in Fife and between them have five children, while their son Derek lives on the Isle of Lewis.

Following his retiral Frank (74) joined Ladybank Golf Club, and can frequently be found out on the course, while 71-year-old Betty is kept busy helping out with the grandchildren.

Betty said: "It's very important to have your own lives and not do everything and go everywhere together.

"I think it's healthy to have your own interests as you appreciate each other's company more and have more to talk about."
