THE amateur football club at the centre of a planning row has called a public meeting to clarify the situation.
Lomond United committee members have booked Falkland Village Hall for tonight (Friday), and are encouraging all interested villagers to attend.
Work on the club's new pitch, which was under construction behind Falkland Palace, was stopped by Fife Council last week when it emerged that planning permission had not been sought.
Alistair McBain, a Lomond United committee member, confirmed that a formal planning application has now been lodged, with the assistance of landowners Falkland Estate.
He said: "The application went in on Wednesday and we believe Fife Council's head of planning has already visited the site with Councillor David MacDiarmid.
"The idea behind the meeting is to address any concerns people in the village may have.
"We'll brief everyone on the why, where and how of the new pitch, before answering questions from the floor.
"If anybody is unhappy with the proposal, we'd encourage them to come along and we'll be happy to talk to them.
"We want to do everything we can as a club to help or reassure people with concerns."
Work on the new pitch began on September 16 after Falkland Estate offered the club the use of curling pond field next to the palace.
But construction was halted when the planning issue was raised, amid concerns from Historic Scotland that the development could have a detrimental impact on the protected areas surrounding the plot.
By that time, thousands of pounds had been spent stripping off the grass and removing a layer of topsoil.
There has since been speculation that if the land is left in its current state for much longer, next year's Big Tent Festival on the same site could be under threat.
Tonight's meeting in the Village Hall starts at 8.15 p.m.
