LOCAL communities are being urged to enter the new Beautiful Fife environmental campaign.
Participating communities will be awarded points when they are assessed towards the end of July, and will receive a bronze, silver, silver gilt or gold medal at an award ceremony in September.
Fife Councils parks and community events officer, Keith Jackson, explained: "Beautiful Fife is being operated by a steering group made up of community representatives from across Fife, from Low Valleyfield in the west to St Andrews in the east.
"It is important to acknowledge that this is a campaign rather than a competition, and it is hoped that communities will embrace all-year round activities in order to improve their local environment.
"There is no better way to enhance the civic pride of a community and such activities are not only healthy, but also help to create community interaction and wellbeing."
The Beautiful Fife campaign will assess communities not just on their floral efforts, but also on their care of other aspects of the environment such as biodiversity, litter, community involvement and even minimising the demand placed on natural resources and any harmful impact on the environment.
