AN INNOVATIVE new facility for young people has opened in Cupar.
The 'Janny's Hoose' is a contact point where youngsters who attend Bell Baxter High School can get access to a range of support and information services.

These include health and fitness, sexual health, drugs and alcohol, family support, young carers, befriending services, youth information, and counselling.

The Janny's Hoose is just that — the old janitor's house at Bell Baxter — and it has been transformed into a welcoming place which will eventually be open where possible during the school day.

This will be reviewed regularly and opened according to the needs of the young people.

Liz McKinstry, senior support worker from Fife Young Carers, explained how they will use the new facility.

"Fife Young Carers is a support network for children who are caring for parents or siblings with a mental or physical disability, and they often need emotional support," she said.

"The Janny's Hoose will be the perfect place for support workers and carers to meet in an informal and relaxing setting.

"This will greatly help our support team to offer this service to carers when it is most needed and we are looking forward to using this great facility at Bell Baxter High School.

Candice Wilson, co-ordinator integrated community schools, and chairperson of the Janny's Hoose working group, said: "Many of the pupils at Bell Baxter High School live in rural communities where it becomes very difficult to access services, and by bringing the service providers to the Janny's Hoose this should give young people the chance to receive the support they require."
