BARGAIN store Pound-Mart closed its doors for the final time on Saturday, landing another blow to Cupar's beleaguered town centre.
The retail firm moved into Crossgate in August last year, filling the space left when Woolworths went bust.

But just eight months later, bosses have closed the store in favour of opening a bigger shop in Dundee.

The closure has left a void in one of Cupar's main shopping streets at a time when traders are already suffering due to roadworks in the town centre.

It is believed some of the staff - many of whom are former Woolworths employees - will be offered a transfer to the proposed new Tayside store.

Independent Cupar councillor Bryan Poole expressed his disappointment at the store being left vacant again after such a short period of time.
He told the Fife Herald: "It's a huge loss to Cupar as the shop's a big focus point in the town.

"I feel particularly sorry for the staff who used to work in Woolies and had been given some hope."

Pound-Mart's departure comes on the back of the closure of the Carlton bakery further up Crossgate.

A 'for sale' sign has appeared on the store - known as Pounders - with customers being directed to other Carlton bakeries elsewhere in Fife.
