Rain hits Kinross Show visitor numbers

THE weather may not have been all they had hoped for, but at least organisers could take comfort from the enthusiasm of the exhibitors at Saturday's Kinross Show, held as usual in the grounds of Kinross House.
Relentless rain throughout the morning inevitably had an effect on visitor numbers, although there was a late flurry later on as the skies cleared.
By that time, several of the regular events had fallen victim to the weather, including the parade and the pony club games, but organisers were cheered by the number of entries in the livestock classes, which had to be abandoned altogether in 2007 because of the foot-and-mouth crisis.
The cattle and sheep were a welcome sight after their absence last year, and competition was fierce amongst exhibitors from all over Scotland.
While the hardier spectators braved the rain to enjoy demonstrations of traditional country pursuits such as falconry and fly-casting, others took shelter in the SWRI tent or the flower show marquee.
This was the 178th year of the Kinross Show, and it's hoped that next year the weather will be kinder so that it can become fully re-established as one of the most keenly-anticipated events in the agricultural calendar.
