THE generosity of Glenrothes Gazette and East Fife Mail readers is being praised by troops in Afghanistan who have already started to receive shoeboxes from our appeal.

Sergeant Major Stephen W deployed to Northern Helmand wrote: "My Company is an Infantry Company on the front line and we are engaged in fighting the enemy regularly. I was touched by the large amount of parcels that my Company received and wanted
to reply personally to let you all know what a great deal this means to me and my men and women.
"The large amount of effort put in is touching.

"We are saving your parcels for Xmas day - it is my intention to give everyone one each for Christmas.

"Please be assured your gifts mean a lot, and this Christmas Day you will be in our thoughts."

And Sgt Andy W has written to say: "Thanks for your parcels. We really appreciate them over here and do use what you send. It's good to know we are being supported back home, via your parcels.

"We are well into a winter tour here, so it's starting to turn cold now. Once again, thank you, and keep them coming."

Lt David C wrote on behalf of all the boys of 4Platoon: "The guys from 4Pl, B Company, 1 Scots, The Royal Regiment of Scotland would like to thank you for your kindness in sending out parcels and just knowing that people are thinking of us back home.

"My Platoon is based in a basic and ridiculously remote patrol base which we affectionately call home.

"We are doing fine just now and morale is high, especially when receiving mail and news from home."
