OVER 250 people crowded into the first Glenrothes Community Cinema night in the Rothes Halls on Friday.

So many people turned up for the event they had to be turned away.

Tricia Marwick MSP and David Nelson of Auchmuty Tenants Association who set up the community cinema project to bring back cinema to Glenrothes were overwhelmed by the success of the evening.

Gavin Howe, chairman of the Glenrothes Community Cinema said: "What a fantastic night. It exceeded our expectations. I am sorry for those who had to be turned away but we just couldn't squash anymore in. Now we can move forward and plan future showings."

Glenrothes MSP Tricia Marwick said: "I have been saying for years that there was a demand for a cinema in Glenrothes. Friday night proved it. We would like to thank all the volunteers who helped on the night and to the Community Cinema Groups in Colinsburgh and Leven who gave their equipment."
