LINDSAY ROY, MP for Glenrothes has released his message for the festive season and it focuses on community spirit.
Mr Roy states: "Nearly every part of the world has been badly affected by the worst recession in living memory. Through my day-to-day work in the constituency, I know about the many challenges facing families, businesses and community organisations.

"With my parliamentary team, we have met thousands of constituents throughout the year at surgeries, meetings and community events. And wherever possible, we have done our best to help. Despite the recession, one thing is clear: people generally 'bend over backwards' to help others.

"Community spirit is strong and family members generally support each other wel," said the MP.

Mr Roy also made reference to the Glenrothes Gazette and East Fife Mail's recent soldier shoebox appeal.

He continued: "My message for Christmas and the New Year is simple and straightforward. Let's continue to support and help each other. Nowhere has that been more evident than in the Glenrothes Gazette and East Fife Mail shoebox appeal for our brave troops in Afghanistan. At times like this we must truly 'stick together'. At more than any time of year our thoughts are with our armed forces. For those families who have experienced loss, this is a terribly hard time. The sacrifices that are being made on our behalf can never be forgotten."
